Finasteride
Finasteride is a treatment for men with male patten balness (androgenetic alopecia) to prevent further hair loss and increase hair growth.
Finasterid inhibits expression of the enzyme, 5-alpha reductase with regulates the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). By lowering DHT levels in the scalp, it reduces DHT’s harmful effect on hair follicles. Finasteride decreases DHT concentrations in the serum and the scalp by up to 60-7-% respectively.
Finasteride is not indicated for use in women with hair loss (female pattern hair loss) but is occasianally used (off-label) postmenopause. Finasteried is contraindicated in women when they are or may potentially be pregnant, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers because it can cause damage to the fetus.
Minoxidil
Minoxidil works by widening blood vessels which allow more oxygen blood and nutrients to the hair follicles. This enhanced blood flow stimulates hair follicles to grow thicker, longer strands of hair over time.
Additionally, minoxidil may prolong the growth phase of the hair follicles, leading to increased hair density and coverage.
Biotin
Biotin plays a crucial role in the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and proteins which are essential for healthy hair growth. Biotin aids in the production of keratin, a protein that forms the structural foundation of hair.
Vitamin B5
